The Sabah Team Tennis Invitational has been rescheduled to 5-7 October to coincides with Sabah TYT’s birthday celebration which falls on 6 October.
The earlier date in September that coincided with Malaysia day also clashed with the SUKMA in Perak.
The switch is also timely as the original dates was intended to celebrate Sabah TYT’s birthday, which at that time was 16 September. Now the Sabah TYT’s birthday has been fixed on October 6 or every first Saturday in October every year.
Sabah Tennis hopes that the teams that have participated in the last 10 years will continue to participate and support the popular tennis tournament in Sabah.
Sabah Tennis president Johnson Koh called on teams who have made earlier reservations to reschedule the dates.
The tournament is the biggest Sabah Tennis event that attracts tennis enthusiasts from all over the world. Among the teams are from Australia, USA, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Thailand, Japan, Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan, India, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and other countries have individual players competing since the tournament was inaugurated nine years ago.
“Sabah Tennis has been playing its part to promote sports tourism in state,” said Johnson, adding that in the past association has received support from the state sports ministry and the Chief Minister’s office.
“We are looking forward for the same support this year from the new government.”
