YOUNG water-skiing prospect Aaliyah Yoong Hanifah’s talent is now beginning to get international attention.
The 11-year-old has received an invitation to compete at the Moomba Masters – one of the most famous professional waterski tournaments in the world – in Melbourne, Australia next month.
The invitation was confirmed by the Malaysian Waterski & Wakeboard Federation (MWWF) in an official statement today.
Surprised by her inclusion, an elated Aaliyah told Bernama: “This is totally way out for me and I hope I can maintain my composure when competing with multiple world champions like Clementine Lucine and Erika Lang.”
Aaliyah is currently ranked 54th in the world’s open women category and 15th among under-17 girls. She trains under her father Hanifah Yoong, who is also the MWWF executive secretary.
The Moomba Masters, in its sixth edition this year, is scheduled to start on Mar 5 and will go on for five days.
