NATIONALÂ elite swimmer Khoo Cai Lin (picture), and Luqman Hakim Ramlan were today crowned Institut Pengajian Tinggi Games (SUKIPT) Sportswoman and Sportsman.
Cai Lin, 25, a student at Taylor’s University, had won six gold medals and three silvers medals en route to smashing five championship records.
Luqman Hakim, 19, a student at UiTM, won the menâs Long jump gold with a championship record after leaping to a distance of 7.53m that also earned him a spot in the Incheon Asian Games, South Korea, on merit.
Both received a medal, trophy and a holiday package to Bali, Indonesia from Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh.
âI am going to concentrate fully on my training regime as I had not undergone strenuous training due to my injure shoulder,â said Cai Lin.
âMy target is to qualify for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland and the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.
âMy focus for the Commonwealth Games will be the 800m Freestyle. In the Asian Games, I am going to focus on the 400m Freestyle,â Cai Lin told Bernama after the closing ceremony at the UiTM Stadium.
Meanwhile, UiTM clinched the overall SUKIPT title with 64 gold, 44 silver and 34 bronze, beating Universiti Putra Malaysia who managed 53 gold, 31 silver and 35 bronze while Universiti Malaya finished third with 16 gold, 11 silver and 17 bronze medals.
