Kelantan will be hoping for similar celebrations when they take on Yangon United in the AFC Cup on Wednesday.
AMAR ROHIDAN is set to give Kelantan a big boost ahead of their AFC Cup campaign next week.
The bad news is that crocked striker Francis Forkey Doe will play no part in their AFC Cup opening match against Myanmar champions Yangon United on Wednesday.
Amar Rohidan is however poised to see action after an ankle injury which has kept him out for seven matches in all competitions.
“Amar surprised me. His fitness now is far better than it was during the pre-season fitness test,” said Kelantan coach Steve Darby.
The Englishman can certainly field a strong line-up following the return of Khairul Fahmi Che Mat, Badhri Radzi and Ahmad Fakri Saarani, who all played a major role in Kelantan’s 6-5 win over PKNS in the FA Cup last Tuesday.
The M-League takes a three-week break for now, as The Red Warriors switch their focus to the second-tier club competition they have yet to shine in after two appearances.
Kelantan made their AFC Cup debut in 2012 and reached the quarterfinals, but lost to Arbil of Iraq 6-2 on aggregate. Last year the Red Warriors reached the round of 16 and lost to Hong Kong’s Kitchee FC 2-0.
They are in Group G of the 2014 edition, alongside XM Vissai Ninh Binh (Vietnam), Yangon United (Myanmar) and South China (Hong Kong).
Yangon will be more than formidable opponents, being the only team ever to win a double – the league and the cup in their domestic league.
Malaysia’s other representative in the regional competition are Selangor, who are in Group F with Hanoi T&T (Vietnam), Arema FC (Indonesia), Maziya Sports & Recreation FC (Maldvies).
Selangor are at home to Arema in their opening match this Tuesday.
