Malaysia will face defending champions South Korea in the fifth placing playoff in the mixed team event after beating Taiwan 3-1 at the Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium in Alor Star on Thursday.
In the playoff match against Taiwan, Malaysia fielded Lee Zii Jia and Lee Ying Ying in the boys’ and girls’ singles respectively for the first time and the duo did not disappoint by winning both their matches.
Zii Jia beat Chang En Chia 21-13, 16-21, 21-14 for Malaysia’s second point after Goh Yea Ching-Tan Jinn Hwa beat Pan Tzu Chin-Yang Ming Tse in the mxied doubles for the opening point. Taiwan narrowed the deficit through Lee Chia Han-Wu Yuan Cheng who beat Tan Jinn Hwa-Goh Sze Fei in the boys’ doubles.
