With the draw of getting substantial benefit from tax, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) have called on the Vietnam government to expedite the legalization of football betting.
With Vietnamese reportedly spending some USD 2 billion on football betting yearly, legalization will bring benefit to the government from tax which in turned could be channeled for the development of sports at all levels.
“The plan to legalize football betting was submitted to the authorities 14 years ago. We hope that the State will soon pass it,” said VFF new chairman Le Hung Dung.
“If we do not legalize football betting, there will be three problems. Firstly, the State will lose a huge amount of tax revenue every year. Secondly, the state cannot control betting activities. Thirdly, many people will always be in the status of illegal betting or non-compliance with the law.”
