Seasoned contender, Elly Idzlianizar Ilias is eagerly waiting for Round Eight of the PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship that will be hosted in his hometown in Kangar, Perlis this 18 and 19 October.
The M Seki Liberty Honda rider is confident he is capable of mounting a much stronger challenge in front of his family and friends having overcome various technical issues that has marred his CP115 campaign so far.
The 30-year old is further boosted by sweet memories winning the last CP130 race held in Kangar in 2012 ahead of Ahmad Fazrul Sham and Ahmad Fuad Baharudin.
“I think we’ve had a couple of good opportunities to finish on the podium this season but things did not go our way. Some of it has been my fault while some was caused by mechanical troubles. But that’s all in the past and the only thing we can do is to learn from it,” said Elly.
Assessing the prospects for his home race, he commented, “Kangar is my home race and the team is confident we can leave a strong impression next weekend. The engineers have already rectified the technical issues with out bike and I have been continuously training on my fitness and race craft. We have even gone through several race strategies together.”
“However anything can happen during a race and if something goes wrong I’ll try and roll with the punches and come out fighting in the next race. No season can be perfect so I’m going to try and be as consistent as possible.”
“But for sure, the support of my family and friends who will be there helps boost my motivation to fight for the podium and improve my position in the standings.”
Elly is currently placed sixth overall in the CP115 overall standings with 59 points while Motul Yamaha YY Pang trio, Zaidy Mohd Zaifaizal, Izzat Zaidi Salehan and Tengku Amirul Haffiruddin leads with 139, 128 and 113 points respectively.
