Leading Malaysian racing driver, Jazeman Jaafar, concluded his pre-season testing programme this week and prepares for the first round of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series which kicks off at Motorland Aragon in Spain in three weeks time.
Jazeman has spent the ‘off-season’ preparing for his 2015 racing campaign, testing in GP2 and Formula Renault 3.5 Series at the end of 2014 and then focusing on his return to FR3.5, the headline championship of the popular World Series by Renault race weekends.
Moving to experienced race team, Fortec Motorsports, for his third year in the FR3.5 Series, Jazeman has enjoyed two very strong tests in the last couple of months. The final test concluded yesterday with Jazeman posting fourth fastest time on the first day and fifth fastest lap on the second day, boosting the young Malaysian’s confidence for the season ahead.
Jazeman said of the test, “We ran really quick even though I struggled with the brakes. The change in brakes for this season are taking a while to get to grips with, but despite this I was able to be a front-runner throughout both days of the test.”
The 21-year-old adds, “On the second day we ran the new mandatory low downforce aerodynamic configuration and were still around the top of the time sheets all day, running second for much of it. We’ll be running this set up for the first part of the race weekend, including qualifying and the first race, so it was good to have some quality testing time and to be so strong in this set up.”
“I’ve quickly settled in at Fortec” says Jazeman.”The team has prepared the cars well, we’ve had quick stops in pitstop practice and having Ollie (Oliver Rowlands) has a team mate is really good as we push each other hard on track, and are able to work well together in the debrief sessions. We’re ready for the season ahead now and I can’t wait to get out and put all this hard work into racing.”
The opening round of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series at Motorland, Aragon, is the first of nine race weekends in this year’s championship.
Of the circuit Jazeman says, “I like this Spanish track and as we’ve tested here regularly with the Series, everyone is very familiar with it. As a relatively new circuit – it’s only 6 years old – the surface is smooth, it’s high speed and the run offs are wide. It’s a great track for spectators too as they can see a fair amount of it from the grandstands. The weather is the biggest imponderable – we’ve had some wet races there and the rain can be quite monsoon-like.”
