Top seeds, Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei of China, lived up to their No. 1 billing today as they defeated compatriots, Xu Chen-Ma Jin in the mixed doubles final of the Maybank Malaysia Open at the Putra Stadium today.
The first part of the first set was a close battle as both pairs stayed close and fought point for point. But at 15-all, Zhang-Zhao began to pull away and finised off their opponents 21-16 in 24 minutes.
Xu and Ma Jin tried to make a comeback in the second set but could not contain their already fired-up opponents. Leading 11-9 at the break, Zhang and Zhao soon extended their lead to 16-12 before sealing the game at 21-14 in 44 minutes.
Zhang-Zhao pocketed USD39,500 while their second placed teammates had to settle for USD 19,000.
