Reiterberger wins to re-take the lead in 2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy

The lead in the 2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy has changed again: Markus Reiterberger (DE) is back in first position after claiming a win and a second place at the SUPERBIKE*IDM (IDM) races at Hungaroring (HU).

His team-mate Bastien Mackels (BE) celebrated his first ever podium in the Superbike class of the IDM. In the FIM CEV Repsol Superbike European Championship (CEV), BMW privateers, Daniel Rivas (ES) and Iván Silva (ES), stepped onto the podium, while Eeki Kuparinen (FI) took the win in the privateer class (CEV AM).

Michael Laverty (GB) was in contention for the win on his BMW S 1000 RR in the British Superbike Championship (BSB) last weekend. And several successful BMW Motorrad privateers visited the BMW Motorrad Days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen (DE). Among them were Guy Martin (GB), Ayrton Badovini (IT) and Lance Isaacs (ZA).

2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy

Last year’s winner is back at the top: Markus Reiterberger (DE / IDM SBK) re-took the lead in the 2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy, having collected 222.38 Race Trophy points so far. Matthieu Lussiana (FR / MT1GP) is now second with 213.33 points, closely followed by Roberto Tamburini (IT / STK 1000) with 212.00 points. In total, 105 participants from 70 different teams and 22 different nations have registered. They compete in 24 different championship classes worldwide (see full rankings below).

SUPERBIKE*IDM at the Hungaroring, Hungary

Blazing heat welcomed the teams and riders of the International German Championship SUPERBIKE*IDM (IDM) at the Hungaroring near Budapest (HU), the venue for the fifth round of the 2015 season. Van Zon-Remeha-BMW rider Markus Reiterberger (DE) defied the fact that he had to load a BoP-weight of six extra kilos to his BMW S 1000 RR and continued his string of success.

With a clever tactic, he won the first of the two exciting races, celebrating his eighth win of the season. In race two he was second, crossing the line only 0.1 seconds behind the winner. In the overall standings of the Superbike class (IDM SBK), Reiterberger now leads with 240 points and an advantage of 55 points over his nearest rival.

His Van Zon-Remeha-BMW team-mate Bastien Mackels (BE) celebrated his first ever podium in the Superbike class of the IDM, finishing the second race in third. In race one the young Belgian was also fighting for the podium, but crashed in the second to last corner.

In the Superstock class (IDM STK), Michal Filla (CZ) was the best-placed BMW privateer with fourth place (eighth overall) in race two. Dominik Vincon (DE / BMW Stilgenbauer) made a good points haul, finishing both heats in fifth in the class (eighth and ninth overall).

Pepijn Bijsterbosch (NL / Van Zon-Remeha-BMW) was eighth and seventh (12th and 11th overall) and guest starter Vincent Lon Bois (BE / Herpigny Motors SA) also achieved a top-ten result, coming home tenth in the first race (15th overall).

FIM CEV Repsol Superbike European Championship at Alcañiz, Spain

Hot temperatures and success for the BMW Motorrad privateers: this also goes for the fourth round of the 2015 FIM CEV Repsol Superbike European Championship (CEV) at MotorLand Aragón in Northern Spain. Daniel Rivas (ES / boxmotos.com Easyrace SBK Team) claimed his best result of the season so far by finishing second.

He was joined on the podium by Iván Silva (ES / Targobank Motorsport) in third. In the overall rankings, Silva has improved to second. Adrián Bonastre (ES) was fifth on the second BMW S 1000 RR from the boxmotos.com Easyrace SBK Team. Eeki Kuparinen (FI) also finished within the top-six, crossing the line in sixth.

In doing so, the Motomarket Racing rider secured victory in the privateer class of the CEV (CEV AM).

British Superbike Championship in Knockhill, Great Britain

The fifth race weekend of the 2015 British Superbike Championship (BSB) was held in Knockhill (GB). In the Superbike class (BSB SBK), Michael Laverty (GB) put in an impressive performance, being in contention for the win on his Tyco BMW S 1000 RR in both races. In the first race he finished second on the podium.

He was, however, later demoted to fourth place after receiving a one second time penalty – for allegedly overtaking in a yellow flag zone. In race two Laverty started from pole position and lead for quite a while. Then the race had to be red-flagged due to a rain shower. After the re-start he was struggling with technical issues and finished sixth.

His Tyco BMW team-mate Tommy Bridewell (GB) was seventh in race one, but retired after a fall in race two. Ryuichi Kiyonari (JP) did not finish the first race but was fourth in race two on his Buildbase BMW Motorrad BMW S 1000 RR. Peter Hickman (GB / RAF Reserves BMW) crossed the line in the top-ten on both occasions, finishing tenth and ninth.

Lee Jackson (GB) was 11th twice on his Buildbase RR, while Billy McConnell (GB / Smiths Racing BMW) was 12th and 21st.

In the Superstock class (BSB STK), the BMW Motorrad privateers experienced an unfortunate day. Alastair Seeley (GB / Tyco BMW) had claimed pole-position but crashed in the race. The best result went to Rob McNealy (GB / McNealy Brown Ltd.), who was 14th.

BMW Motorrad Days at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany

Last weekend, the BMW Motorrad Days attracted tens of thousands of visitors to Garmisch-Partenkirchen (DE). BMW Motorrad Motorsport was part of the event, presenting its extensive worldwide activities. The stand was built around the race truck of the BMW MOTORRAD France Penz13.com Team of Rico Penzkofer (DE) from the FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC). Several of the most successful privateer BMW Motorrad riders were in Garmisch, like road racing star Guy Martin (GB), WSBK rider Ayrton Badovini (IT), South African racer Lance Isaacs, female road racer Maria Costello (GB) and “Queen of Speed” Valerie Thompson (US), who has set numerous speed records with the BMW S 1000 RR.

They took their time to chat to the visitors, signed autographs and were available for pictures with the fans. In addition, some of the 2015 race bikes were shown, like the BMW S 1000 RR Martin raced at the Isle of Man TT (IOMTT), Badovini’s RR from the FIM Superbike World Championship (WSBK) and the #13 BMW S 1000 RR from the EWC.

2015 BMW Motorrad Race Trophy – Current Standings

In 2015 the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy comprises a total of 19 international and national championships. Participants in the BMW Motorrad Race Trophy can compete in multiple championships. The points scored in the different championships are calculated separately for each individual race series.
