Datuk Lee Chong Wei, the former world No.1, survived a minor setback in his second round encounter against German Marc Zwiebler today before picking up the pace in the decider and walk away with a 21-14, 17,21, 21-8 at the Istora Senayan at the Gelora Bung Karno complex.
Chong Wei will now face his first Chinese hurdle in Wang Zhengming, who had defeated Toby Penty 21-16, 19-21, 21-13 in just under an hour later today. “I last played him in Taipeh but that was another game, the world champs is different. I just want to focus on my game and not worry about him.”
Chong Wei also said that today’s game was important in rebuilding his game and confidence. His victories in the first two rounds have been relatively easy and it looks like his work to try and secure his first title will begin with Zhengming tomorrow. 

In today’s game, Zwiebler quickly raced to a 3-0 lead and pulled away again at 8-5. But Chong Wei drew level at 8-8 and slowly started reeling in the points to seal the opening tie 21-14.

The German turned up the heat and after several poo shots from the Malaysian, Zwiebler was suddenly leading 10-4. Stunned by the charge, Chong Wei battled back and drew level at 10-10 only to allow Zwiebler to pull away again. He was soon up 17-12 and after a few more unforced errors snatched the second game 21-17.

Chong Wei stepped up the pace in the decider and was soon in full control. He stormed to a 8-3 lead, turned the corner at 11-6 and was soon well on his way to another win. Zwiebler tried desperately to stop Chong Wei but was constantly caught out. He later said that the pace was fast and that with Chong Wei there was simply no room for errors. Despite his best efforts, the German lost the third game 21-8.  

Earlier, topseed Chen Long and Lin Dan both won their matches to advance to the next round.
