* Nurshaneem wins her fourth Tennis Malaysia title on junior tour 

 

It was another ruthless performance from Sabah’s Nurshaneem Imann Shamsuddin on the Tennis Malaysia junior tour on her way to her fourth title in the Under-16 category.

Nurshaneem defeated Kuala Lumpur’s Khadijah Latfy 6-2, 6-3 in the final in the eighth-leg of the Tour which was played at the Bandar Hiliran Tennis Courts in Kuala Terengganu.- her second title in less than a month.

In the seventh-leg played in Kota Kinabalu last month Nurshaneem also defeated Khadijah in the final.

Hailed as a rising star in Malaysian tennis, Nurshaneem whitewashed Terengganu’s Nurizaty Shahirah in the quarter-finals 6-0, 6-0. In the semi-finals Nurshaneem was merciless in her 6-0, 6-0 rout of Nur Alifah Aliana also from Trengganu.

“Nurshaneem can take her tennis career far with proper coaching and right exposure in tennis tournaments, both at home and abroad,” said Sabah Tennis Association president Johnson Koh.

“Todate Nurshaneem has won four national level titles since 2014. She has done Sabah proud again. This comes after Christian Chin had done Sabah proud in 2014 and is ranked No 1 in Asia under the Under-14 category”

The eighth-leg of the tour attracted 130 players for the 4 categories in the boys and girls.

Johnson, a businessman, while congratulating Nurshaneem, hopes more parents will play a role in their children’s sports career.

“Nurshaneem is coached by her father. The parents have played a big role in grroming and supporting her tennis career,” added Johnson.
