# Jing Yi ends season empty handed
Malaysia’s top woman shuttler Tee Jing Yi was the top seed and expected to win but instead the Penangite once again fell to her Thai opponent Pornpawee Chochuwong in the women’s singles final in the USD15,000 TATA India Open International in Mumbai on Sunday.
The Thai, ranked World No 40, was fully stretched but prevailed with a come from behind 16-21, 21-11, 21-15 win in 40 minutes to pocket the USD1,125 in prize money that came with the title.
Jing Yi, currently ranked world No 37m winner of the Iran International Challenge last year, took home USD570 for her efforts but ended the 2015 season empty handed.
The Malaysian had also lost to Pornpawee in the 2013 Yonex Australian Open – also in three sets 21-13, 22-24, 16-21.
The men’s singles final was an all-India affair with Sameer Varma, seeded third, defeating Sourabh Varma 21-11, 21-18 for the title in 26 minutes.
