The national diving squad has secured their seventh slot to the 2016 Rio Olympics Games in August.
It was made possible by Cheong Jun Hoong/Nur Dhabitah Sabri, who finished fifth in the women’s 3m synchronised springboard event, amassing 301.50 points, at the 2016 International Swimming Federation (FINA) Diving World Cup at the Maria Lenk Aquatic Centre in Rio, late Saturday (early Sunday Malaysian time).
World diving powerhouse, China took the gold medal through Shi Tingmao/Wu Minxia after collecting 339.60 points, while Canadian pair Jennifer Abel/Pamela Ware finished second with 312.27 points, according to FINA website;www.fina.org.
Samantha Amy Mills/Esther Qin of Australia had to settle at third place with 307.50 points.
The country’s diving squad secured their sixth slot to the Rio Olympics after Pandelela Rinong/Cheong June Hoong won the silver medal in the women’s 10m synchronised platform event, late Friday (early Saturday Malaysian time).
Malaysia have already secured five individual spots to the Olympics through Ooi Tze Liang (men’s 3m springboard and 10m platform), Wendy Ng Yan Yee (women’s 3m springboard), Nur Dhabitah Sabri (women’s 10m platform) and Pandelela Rinong in the women’s 10m platform, last year. – BERNAMA
