# ‘It is five difficult months for me to prepare for the Olympics’ – Chong Wei

 

Datuk Lee Chong Wei kick-started his journey to win his 11th Malaysia Open title on a positive note when he demolished Japan’s Takuma Ueda 21-11, 21-8 in 33 minutes in the first round in the Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open at the Malawati Stadium in Shah Alam on Wednesday.

The second seeded Chong Wei will face a South Korean hurdle in veteran Son Wan-ho in the second round. Wan-ho defeated another Malaysia Goh Soon Huat in three sets 21-16, 5-21, 21-13.

“After missing last year’s Malaysia Open it is nice to be back and play in the my home tournament. It was a rather easy win in my first match but it will be tough in the second round,” said Chong Wei after the match.

“Wan-ho is in good condition and I saw him play in the India Open, I last played him in the Sudirman Cup and won.”

Chong Wei has an impressive head-to-head count figures with a 8-1 lead and he beat the Korean 21-17, 21-12 in last year’s Sudirman Cup.

“In the past it was the semi-finals or the final in any tournament but this time around I lost in the first round in the All-England and second round in the India Open which left many questioning my performance.

“I can assure all that my preparations are fully focused on the Olympics My coach Hendrawan and me have discussed the matter and it will be five difficult months for me in terms of preparations.

“The Olympic ticket is safe but it is the chase to get a good seeding and this will depend on the world ranking,” added Chong Wei.

Chong Wei who won the Malaysian Masters in January in Penang wants to give his Malaysian supporters something to cheer at the Malawati Stadium where he last played in 2001.
