Local knowledge proved invaluable as junior golfers from Johor topped the podium during the second leg of the MYFutures Junior Tour at Johor Golf & Country Club on April 9.

The two-day competition, which attracted a field of 65 players, was hosted by the Johor Golf Association as part of their continuing effort to groom the state’s up-and-coming junior golfers through high-level competitions.

With the weather taking a turn for the worst at the tail-end of the final round, the Tour’s competition committee made a conscious decision to reduce the competition to 27 holes except for the boys’ blue division, which was completed before the suspension of play.

Having opened her campaign in the girls’ white division with a three-over 75, Johor Juniors starlet Qistina Balqis Azhar added a 37 to finish one clear of SEA Games silver medallist Rivani Adelia Sihotang of Indonesia with a four-over 112 total . Liyana Durisic was a further three strokes adrift in third.

In the girls’ red division, talented local lass Alyaana Arman led from the start to finish, totalling 145 on the back of rounds of 94 and 51. Ilysia Yasmin Ibnu was second on 148, three strokes clear of third-placed Maisarah Muhammad Hezri.

Singapore’s Thomas Lamb topped the standings in boys’ blue division to take home the best international player award. The 14-year-old notched rounds of 82 and 81 to finish one clear of Izzat Syazmin Amirul Syazwan while Benjamin Yap finished a further shot back in third.

In the boys’ white division, Farhan Fikri, also from Johor, carded rounds of 84 and 43 to capture a two-shot victory over Muhammad Luqman Hakim Roselan with a 19-over 127 overall. Tengku Muhammad Muzaffar Tengku Masly settled for third on 130.

Irvyn Tan Sheng Kang finished as the best-placed under-12 boy with a score of 134 (90-44).
