Malacca United are the only unbeaten team in the 100PLUS Premier League after nine matches after a 2-1 win over Kuala Lumpur who were also unbeaten until the top of the table clash at the Hang Jebat Stadium on Friday.
And it was a double blow for KL as they slipped to third place in the 12-team league after Negri Sembilan replaced the city boys in second spot following a 3-1 triumph over Perlis at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi.
Malacca lead the table standings with 21 points – three more than N. Sembilan and KL who have 18 points each but separated by goal difference.
KL needed less than a minute to grab the lead through Brazilian striker Anselmo Arruda da Silva (Casagrande) but in meant little to Ismail Zakaria’s team as Malacca change the scenario in a three three minute spell which began on 27 minutes.
Montenegro striker headed in a delight cross from Jasmir Mehat to make it 1-1. Malacca were still celebrating the goal when Jasmir scored to give Malacca fans plenty to cheer – this time Jasmir himself got his name into the score-sheet to make it 2-1 in the 30th minute which turned out to be the winner for Mat Zan Aris’ team.
Negri Sembilan who fell to a 3-2 defeat to JDT II in Pasir Gudang on Tuesday – their first in the league – rode on goals by their foreign trio to keep pace with the leaders and a place in the Malaysia Cup.
English striker Alexander Smith paved the way with the opening goal in the 37th minute before their Australian skipper Taylor Regan added the second on 39 minutes. Australian striker Joel Chianese got the third in the 68th minute.
Perlis, under former national coach Dollah Salleh, got their goal through former Felda United striker Edward Junior Wilson in the 43rd minute.
A 31st minute goal by Muhammad Hafiy Haikal Ismail was enough to give JDT II a 1-0 win over Sabah and full points at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu.
Selangor outfit PKNS FC under head coach E. Elavarasan warmed up for their return-leg FA Cup semi-final against Perak in Ipoh on April 30 with a 3-0 win over UiTM FC in Shah Alam in an afternoon match.
Juan Cobelli scored a brace in the 53rd and 62nd minutes while Argentine hot-shot Gabriel Guerra continued his rich scoring form with the third in the 67th minutes.
At the Proton Stadium in Tanjung Malim in another afternoon match DRB Hicom hammered bottom placed and winless Armed Forces 4-0 in a one sided affair. DRB Hicom scored their goals through Nazri Kamal, Ivan Babic, Fakrul Aiman and Godwin Antwi.
Kuantan FA were also big winners with a 4-2 win over Sime Darby at the Darul Makmur Stadium in Kuantan with goals by Malik Mat Arif (1st and 68th minutes, Fiqri Abdullah (13th) and Srdjan Vidkovic.
Sime Darby netted through Mateo Roskam and Frederic Pooda in the 12th and 74th minutes respectively.
