Moto2 Qualifying Results
Drama continues for PETRONAS Raceline Malaysia’s Hafizh Syahrin as poor handling dashed his hopes of securing a strong start position in the Spanish Grand Prix Moto2 qualifying on Saturday.
Hafizh who completed 20-laps recorded his quickest tour around the Jerez Circuit in 1’43.897s to earn 24th place on the timesheets and will start Sunday’s Moto2 race on the back foot from eighth row.
Meanwhile Moto2 Championship leader, Sam Lowes is set to head the Moto2 field from pole having broke the circuit lap record with 1’42.408s ahead of Jonas Folger and Sandro Cortese.
Hafizh Syahrin, PETRONAS Raceline Malaysia Moto2 rider
I could not get a good feeling on the bike throughout Qualifying. I tried very hard to alter my riding style to suit the bike but nothing worked. I am disappointed but I remain hopeful the engineers can find a solution before the race tomorrow.
Barry Leong, PETRONAS Raceline Malaysia team manager
Qualifying was a problematic session for the team. Despite making changes with the bike, we still could not find any improvement. It looks like we are far behind the field and tomorrow’s race will definitely be tough. The team engineers need to rectify these issues immediately as we only have 20 minutes of Warm Up practice to test it out before the race.
