3 WINS OUT OF 3 ROUNDS, BUT MAJU’S NOT DONE YET
A new track layout may await at Round 4 of the 2016 PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship in Pasir Mas, Kelantan this weekend but team PETRONAS Yamaha Maju Motor is unfazed by the challenge. The newly rebranded team looks set to be the dominant factor as the 2016 championship drama unfolds. Three rounds into the 2016 season, team Maju has pulled away from the competition with its senior-rookie combination of Ahmad Fazli Sham and Kasma Daniel Kasmayuddin.
“Judging from the track map released by the race organizers, the Pasir Mas temporary circuit looks relatively simple. It is a fast track with plenty of straights. This will be an advantage for our team because right now, we are confident that ours are some of the fastest bikes in the season. The clockwise layout looks a lot like Kangar and the team is confident that both Fazli and Kasma will again perform well,” said PETRONAS Yamaha Maju Motor team owner Yong Ying Hoe.
Team Maju’s comeback to the top ranks of the Malaysian Cub Prix standings had been long overdue. The 19-year-old team holds the record as the most successful team in the Malaysian Cub Prix with a whopping twelve titles to its name – seven Expert/CP130 champions, three team award honours and two Novice/CP115 titles. However, the Selangor-based team’s title run came to a sudden halt after 2008 when Cub Prix morphed from 125cc to 130cc.
“This year, we finally reap the fruits of many years of labour. The fast Maju bikes you see on the track today are the result of the research and development that the team had undertaken over the past five years. We made some mistakes along the way and were not able to achieve overnight success with our new direction but it is finally coming together in a big way. We are confident of retaining our lead for the remainder of the season,” said Yong.
Fans of team Maju Motor can catch their bikes in action at Round 4 of the 2016 PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship in Pasir Mas, Kelantan on May 20 and 21, 2016. Spectator entry is free.
