SEBAGAI tenaga barisan hadapan, Sukarelawan Kuala Lumpur 2017, berperanan penting menonjolkan imej positif Malaysia pada Sukan SEA ke-29 dan Sukan Para ASEAN ke-9 yang akan berlangsung Ogos ini.
Latihan pendedahan bukan terbatas kepada atlet sahaja, para Sukarelawan 2017, yang juga dikenali sebagai pasukan WAU Factor, juga memerlukan pendedahan dan latihan khusus bagi memastikan kelancaran penganjuran Kuala Lumpur 2017.
Menteri Belia dan Sukan YB Brig Jen Khairy Jamaluddin berkata sebagai kelompok penting di barisan depan, para sukarelawan perlu mahir dalam tugasan khusus mereka kerana ia membabitkan imej negara di peringkat antarabangsa.
“Saya mahu mereka benar-benar bersedia, bukan sahaja dari segi ketrampilan dan imej, tetapi juga bagaimana melangkaui tugas hakiki mereka untuk menyelesaikan masalah. Sukarelawan perlu bertindak pantas dan mampu menyelesaikan apa juga masalah dengan cepat,” kata YB Brig Jen Khairy, yang jugaPengerusi Jawatankuasa Pengelola Malaysia (MASOC) Kuala Lumpur 2017, selepas menghadiri sessi Latihan Umum Sukarelawan Sukan SEA dan Para ASEAN di Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) di Bangi pada Rabu (15 Februari 2017).
Turut hadir, Ketua Setiausaha Kementerian Belia dan Sukan, Dato’ Lokman Hakim Ali, Presiden Majlis Olimpik Malaysia (MOM), Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Jaafar dan Ketua Pegawai Eksekutif Sekretariat MASOC, Dato’ Seri Zolkples Embong.
Sejak tahun lepas, hampir 300 peserta terbabit dalam program latihan fasa pertama Program Sukarelawan WAU Factor yang memberi penekanan terhadap aspek kenegaraan, patriotisma, memahami identiti komuniti ASEAN serta mahir mengenai latarbelakang Sukan SEA. Fasa kedua bermula April ini dan menjurus kepada latihan spesifik mengikut kemahiran masing-masing.
Setakat ini, daripada jumlah 54,000 orang menyatakan minat menyertai program Sukarelawan WAU Factor, seramai 27,160 pemohon telah mengisi borang dan mendaftar secara rasmi. Keseluruhannya, MASOC memerlukan seramai 13,000 tenaga sukarelawan pada temasya Kuala Lumpur 2017.

KL2017 VOLUNTEERS URGED TO PROJECT COUNTRY’S POSITIVE IMAGE
THE Kuala Lumpur 2017 volunteers need to adopt positive attitude and strive to project the good image of the country during the 29th SEA Games and 9th ASEAN Para Games in August.
The 2017 Games volunteer team, known as “WAU Factor”, need to be at their best and are required to undergo specific training to ensure that they are equipped with right knowledge and prepared to face any problem or situation which may arise during Games time.
Youth and Sports Minister YB Brig Gen Khairy Jamaluddin said as front-liners, volunteers need to be prepared to face challenges and discharge their duties effectively.
YB Brig Gen Khairy, who is also the Chairman of the Malaysia Organising Committee (MASOC) Kuala Lumpur 2017, said: “Members of the WAU Factor volunteer team need to be prepared and diligent in every aspect of their duties. They need to be prepared to help out in areas beyond their specific duties.”
YB Brig Jen Khairy attended the WAU Factor Volunteer Training Programme for the 29th SEA Games and 9th ASEAN Para Games at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) in Bangi on Wednesday (15 Feb 2017). Also present were Youth and Sports Ministry Secretary-General Dato’ Lokman Hakim Ali, Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) President Tan Sri Tunku Imran Tuanku Jaafar and MASOC Secretariat Chief Executive Officer Dato’ Seri Zolkples Embong.
Some 300 volunteers have undergone training since the WAU Factor Training programme started last year. The second phase of training resumes in April.
To date, out of the 54,000 applicants who have expressed interests, 27,160 have officially registered and signed up as WAU Factor volunteers via www.kualalumpur2017.com.my. MASOC has set a target of recruiting 13,000 volunteers for Kuala Lumpur 2017.
