Cambodian head coach Leonardo Vittorino is going for balance between the young and older players as he look to inject more confidence into the squad.
With a match against Afghanistan in the qualifying round of the AFC Asian Cup coming up on 13 June 2017, the Cambodians will take on Indonesia in a friendly tie to tighten up his squad.
“Football is all about second chances, so I have given a few players an opportunity to get back to the team, while I have kept out a few regulars who I thought did not train well enough,” said Vittorino.
“I have retained some experienced players, at the same time making way for promising youngsters.
“Every player must earn his place. There is no such thing as superstars. I want players who deem themselves irreplaceable to know that we have youngsters to take their place if they don’t perform or train.”
Vittorino’s first game in charge saw the team falling to a 7-0 loss to Jordan two months ago.
