Host and second seed Malaysia opens the men’s team badminton competition against Laos and barring any upsets, are expected to march into the semifinals against either Singapore or Myanmar.
The Games badminton draw pits top seed Indonesia in the same half with Thailand, where both are expected to square off in the semifinals.
Malaysia can look forward to a fruitful outing on home soil, said Badminton Association of Malaysia secretary-general Datuk Ng Chin Chai.
“Today’s draw presents good signs for both our men and women’s team to deliver the goods,” said Dato Ng.
“No doubt, Thailand will be sending their best players for the men’s competition but we have a good chance of progressing to the finals and clinch the gold medal,” said Dato’ Ng.
