Ngueyn Hu Thang, the head coach of the Vietnam Under-22 team, wants his players to compete with an open mind in spite of being placed in the Group of Death for the SEA Games 2017.
Following the official draw earlier this month, Vietnam have been drawn in Group B against defending champions Thailand, Indonesia, Cambodia, Timor Leste and the Philippines.
“We are in the same group with Indonesia, the Philippines and defending champions Thailand, which is called ‘Group of Death’. It is difficult for us but it is the same for the other teams as well. We look at them as tough rivals, and so do they as Vietnam are also a tough team under their eyes,” said Huu Thang.
“I want my players to compete with an open mind. They are under no pressure but have been asked to train as hard as possible. I also want them to play with belief. They can lose or win but if they do the best in every game they could leave the field with peace of mind. And of course, a little luck by our side will be perfect.”
Vietnam will open their campaign in Group B against Timor Leste on 15 August.
