The national volleyball team stayed true to form when they volleyed their way to their third consecutive win after beating the National Volleyball Development Programme (NVDP) squad 3-1 at the pre-Sea Games Volleyball Championship.

The senior side had it right in the first two sets as they breezed to lead 25-13 and 25-14 at the MBSA Indoor Volleyball Court in Shah Alam.

But the development side did not just sit back as NVFD then fought their way to a 25-23 win in the third set.

Winning the first point gave NVFD confidence and after leading mid-way through the fourth 14-11, it forced national coach Tay Yeu Siong to reshuffle his squad.

With his experienced hands on deck, the national team overturned the deficit to win the match 25-20.

Meanwhile in another match, it was an epic battle between MBSA and AFVC.

Down from a two set deficit, MBSA had charged their way back into a come-from-behind 3-2 win – 16-25, 27-29, 25-22, 25-22, 15-8 – to seal a spot in the finals with three wins in their final round robin fixture.

In an earlier match played in the morning, MBSA had beaten X Bukit Jalil 3-0 in straight sets to obtain their second win.

Both Malaysia and MBSA have once again set a date in the finals on Sunday.

The national team, with a match in hand, will play their final round robin match with the ex senior players – X Bukit Jalil – on 22 July at 8pm.

In the other fixtures, winless sides NVDP and X Bukit Jalil will battle it out with AFVC – who has a win and two losses – for a spot in the third and fourth placing.
