THE Malaysian gymnastic squad had a pleasant surprise when Prime Minister YAB Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak dropped by ?at the team’s training session at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) on Wedneday (8 Aug 2017).
YAB Datuk Seri Najib and wife Y.A.Bhg Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor, who were at MITEC to attend the official handover ceremony of MITEC by NAZA Group to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry on Tuesday (9 Aug 2017), gave some words of advice and encouragement to the athletes.
Nine days away before the commencement of KL2017, MITEC is all ready to host the region’s biggest sporting extravaganza where 53 gold medals from eight sports will be contested at the brand new trade and exhibition centre.?
Earlier, NAZA Group Executive Chairman/Chief Executive Officer SM Nasimuddin SM Nasaruddin handed over the building to Datuk Seri Mustapha Mohamad, Minister of International Trade and Industry.
The eight sports are gymnast-artistic (12 golds), gymnastic-rhythmic (8), boxing (6), fencing (6), Indoor Hockey (2), table tennis (7), muay (5), volleyball (2) and weightlifting (5).
KL2017 is the first major sporting event to be held at MITEC which also houses the Games Main Press Centre (MPC) and International Broadcast Centre (IBC). More than 2,000 journalists, photographers and broadcasters have registered to cover the 29th edition of the Games.
“Here I MITEC we will witness our sporting heroes in action which include table tennis ace Ng Sock Khim, the indoor hockey team, rhythmic gymnastic queens Farah Ann Abdul Hadi, Tan Ing Yueh (gimnastik) and many others,” the Prime Minister said after ?taking a brief ?tour at ?some of ?the Games venues? at MITEC.?
Also present were Minister of Youth and Sports, YB Brig. Jen. Khairy Jamaluddin, Federal Territory Minister Datuk Seri Utama Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor dan Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.
