Kota Kinabalu-born Fatin Nurfatehah Mat Salleh was her bubbly self after winning her second gold medal in the 29th Sea Games (KL2017) when she partnered Juwaidi Marzuki to retain the compound mixed team gold at the National Sports Council Synthetic Turf field in Bukit Jalil on Friday.

It was Malaysia’s third gold in archery and Fatin’s second after winning the compound team gold with Syazhera Mohd Asmi and Saritha Cham Nong.

Hours after winning the mixed team gold Fatin and Syazhera left for Taipei for the World University Games (Universiade) – with her confidence boosted by the two golds to her collection.

Fatin could only manage a bronze in the individual compound on Wednesday. However, the 26-year-old made up for the disappointment with some sterling performances in the team and mixed team.

“I just could not manage the windy conditions in the individual events. It was disappointing to lose but we came back strong on the second and third day in the team and mixed team events respectively.

“Retaining the mixed team gold is a big boost for me in the Universiade,” said Fatin after her triumph.

Fatin won three golds in the 2015 Sea Games in Singapore and was a hot favourite to retain her individual title but flopped – thanks to the wind. However, Fatin has put the disappointment behind her.

Malaysia’s compound archers delivered four golds in Singapore while the men’s recurve team got the fifth.

In the mixed team Fatin and Juwaidi clinched the gold with a 152-142 win over Myanmar duo Aung Ngeain-Ye Min Swe for Malaysia’s third gold in the sport.
Enroute to the gold the ripped past Singapore 155-149 and Vietnam 154-152.
