GAN Hua Wei clinched Malaysia’s second gold medal in the pool – only this time teaming up with Zylane Lee Yhing Huey in the free routine duet event in synchronised swimming competition which concluded on Sunday (20 Aug) at the National Aquatic Centre in Bukit Jalil.
The duo scored 76.3000 points, leaving Singaporeans pair of Debbie Soh-Miya Yong Hsing to the silver medal with 76.2333 points – beaten to the gold by a margin of 0.0076 points.
Hua Wei had surprised all Malaysians by delivering a gold medal in the solo technical event on the first day of competition on Thursday (17 Aug).
Indonesians Anisa Feritrianti and Claudia Megawati were third (71.4667).
The synchronised swimming competition concluded with Malaysia making a two gold medal haul and two silver medals followed by Singapore (2-2-2).
“I am excited we have delivered two gold medals to our target of 111 gold. We just executed everything that we were taught in training,” said Zylane.
Zylane combined with Katrina Ann Hadi to win the event in Singapore two years ag, but Katrina has retired at the beginning of 2016 and Zylane was then paired up with Hua Wei.
We’ve done our absolute best, even better than previous competitions,” added Singaporean Debbie. “From our perspective, we have no regrets. If this is the result, then so be it.”
