Five teams from ASEAN have made the cut for the AFC Under-19 Championship which will be held in Indonesia in 2018.
As compared to just three teams – Thailand, Australia and Vietnam – from ASEAN that made the final rounds in Saudi Arabia last year, the yearly developmental championships under the Asean Football Federation (AFF) have allowed more teams from ASEAN to make the cut.
Other than the three who will once again grace the championship in Jakarta, the other two teams getting tickets to the final rounds are Malaysia and Indonesia, by virtue as being hosts.
In the qualifiers this time round, Vietnam and Australia gained automatic places to the next round after they each won Group H and Group J respectively.
Thailand and Malaysia were two out of five best placed runners-up teams from Group I and Group F.
The AFC U19 Championship in Jakarta, Indonesia will be held in October next year.
