The Malaysian women’s team were brought back down to reality this morning when they crashed to a 3-0 defeat to South Korean in the quarter-finals of the E-Plus Badminton Asia Team Championship here in Alor Star.
But really the game was beyond the reach of the Malaysian girls as they were up against a team placed third in the world rankings.
Malaysia is eighth.
“Overall, I think that I could have done better,” said Malaysia’s Goh Jin Wei afterwards.
“I was tense in the first half and after that I was playing catch-up and it is not a good place to be.”
Soniia Cheah fell to a 13-21, 10-21 loss to Sung Ji Hyun while the doubles pair of Vivian Hoo-Tee Jing Yi collapsed against Lee So Hee-Shin Seung Chan 10-21, 15-21.
Jin Wei tried hard to make a game of her encounter against Jang Mi Lee but fell short 21-17, 11-12, 13-21.
But in spite of the loss, Malaysia will still make the cut for the Uber Cup in Thailand in May based on their current world rankings.
