The Malaysian men’s team continued their fine form to make the semi-finals of the Badminton Asia Team Championship when they beat Hong Kong 3-0 here at the Sultan Abdul Halim Indoor Stadium.
Following from their inspired performance yesterday when they whitewashed Chinese Taipei to make the cut for the quarter-finals today, the Malaysian men’s team was in no compromising mood as they won the first two games in straight sets.
Lee Chong Wei overcame Angus Ng 21-15, 22-20 while Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong seem to be back on the winning trail after overcoming Or Chin Chung-Tang Chun Man 21-11, 21-16 in less than half an hour.
Lee Zii Jia then gave Malaysia the third win and a place in the semi-finals with a 21-16, 21-15 demolition of Vincent Wong.
“It was quite smooth today and naturally, we are happy with the win,” said Wee Kiong.
“The important thing is that we have done our part in winning our game and delivering the point.”
Added V Shem: “it really does not matter who we play against in the semi-finals. China or India is fine.” – BY ALVIN OH
