More than 20 cars representing sponsors of Le Tour de Langkawi 2018 in a cavalcade convoy will add to the excitement of the 23rd edition of Asia’s biggest race from March 18 to 25.
Apart from its function as an advance entourage to inform spectators along the route that the peloton will be passing their area, the cavalcade convoy which usually moves an hour ahead of the race will also hypeup the atmosphere by distributing momentos and souvenirs mainly of sponsors’ products.
Led by traffic police and marshals on motorcycles to ensure smooth passage, four leading cars ahead of the convoy will feature mannequins adorning the four leaders’ jerseys contested in the race this year – the yellow overall leader’s jersey, the King of the Mountains, Points Classification leader and the leading Asian rider’s jersey.
Among the participating sponsors in the cavalcade convoy this year are the Terengganu State Government, Spritzer, Givi, Thule, Forca, Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS), KL Hop-on-Hop-off, Sunway Lagoon, Ara Assist, the National Culture and Arts Department (JKKN), Nasional FM, Kopiesatu and six LTdL secretariats.
LTdL 2018 chief operating officer Shahirudeen Seeni Mohamad said the organisers and sponsors will ensure that the atmosphere is lifted an hour ahead of the race for cycling fans to be ready to gather to cheer on the riders as they arrive.
“As usual the presence of the colourful cavalcade convoy will signal that the race will be arriving within an hour, thus injecting excitement as fans eagerly await the arrival of the peloton no matter what the weather conditions are,” said Shahirudeen.
“This is an LTdL tradition that has been running since its inception and Ciclista Sports as the organiser will give it our all to ensure the race is brought closer to the people with such a spectacle.
“The sponsors involved in the cavalcade will also open sales and promotion stalls at every start and finish venue in order for increase awareness of their products among spectators.”
He added that LTdL belongs to Malaysians, thus the people and sponsors who have participated in this edition of the race deserve to enjoy the unique excitement on offer in a race they can be proud of.
LTdL 2018, featuring eight stages, is scheduled to begin in Kangar, Perlis on March 18, two days after the team presentation in Langkawi on March 16, with the grand finish scheduled in Kuala Lumpur on March 25.
