SEREMBAN (3rd July 2018) – FOLLOWING encouraging results in the last two circuits in Putrajaya and Melaka respectively, Kuala Lumpur are optimistic of ending their campaign in the 100PLUS National Junior Grand Prix Finals, which starts off tomorrow in Seremban, on a high note.
Kuala Lumpur are pinning their hopes on young stars Odelia Wong Qiao Shi, Wong KhaMun and Tan Kia Jie as they seek to improve on their performance and results in the previous two rounds.
The Grand Finals will showcase the future stars of Malaysian badminton at the Negeri Sembilan Chinese Recreation Club. For five days, the young players will be caught up in an intense battle for honours.
Kuala Lumpur head coach Raymond Seevong said his players are in good shape and physically and mentally ready for the big action.
“We achieved better results in the second leg in Melaka and this surely is a good sign for us, but it all boils down to the performance of the players on competition day,” said Raymond.
In the women’s Under 16 category, Odelia Wong Qiao Shi will be spearheading Kuala Lumpur challenge in both the individual as well as the doubles challenge with partner Wong KhaMun.
Tan JiaJie will be Kuala Lumpur’s main man to achieve glory in the men’s individual category.
Raymond expects stiff competition this time around as players who are currently training under the Badminton of Malaysia (BAM) will also be in action.
“It will be tough as some of the players who will be in action are currently undergoing training with the national team but I’m optimistic that my players have what it takes to go through right up to the finals,” he said.
In the first-leg, Pahang (Kuantan) played hosts for Zone A, Terengganu (Kuala Terengganu) for Zone B and Putrajaya for Zone C while Sabah were host for Zone A, Kedah (Zone B) and Melaka (Zone C).
