#Ferguson family âoverwhelmedâ by support after ex managerâs illness
Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken for the first time publically since suffering a brain haemorrhage nearly three months ago to thank the medical staff that saved his life.
The former Manchester United manager was rushed to hospital on 5 May and underwent emergency surgery, but is on his way to making a full recovery and has revealed his intention to return to Old Trafford this season to support the club.
In a video statement released by Manchester Unitedâs official Twitter account, Ferguson said: âHello. Just a quick message, first of all to thank the medical staff at Macclesfield, Salford Royal and Alexandra hospitals.
âBelieve me, without those people, who gave me such great care, I would not be sitting here today. So thank you from me and my family, thank you very much.â
The 76-year-old also acknowledged the huge swell of support that he received, with a number of football clubs and figures from other sports sending him get-well messages, along with tributes from fans on social media.
âIt’s made me feel so humble, as have all the messages I’ve received from all over the world, wishing me the best,â Ferguson added. âAnd the good wishes do resonate very, very strongly with me. So thank you for that support you’ve given me.â
Ferguson has remained a prominent figure at Old Trafford since stepping down as manager to enter retirement in 2013, and he outlined his clear intention to return to Old Trafford at some point in the future once his recovery is complete.
He said: âLastly, I’ll be back later in the season to watch the team. In the meantime, all the best to Jose and the players. Thank you very much.âINDEPENDENT
