The top Malaysian pair and former world number one stormed into the quarter-finals with a 21-9, 21-12 win over Nepal brothers Bikash and Nabin in only 20 minutes.

V Shem-Wee Kiong will play the winners of Indonesian top seeds Marcus Fernaldi Gideon-Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo versus Japan’s Takuto Inoue-Yuki Kaneki in a late night match.

Earlier Malaysia’s second-ranked pair Yew Sin-Ee Yi upset Japan’s third seeds in straight games 21-14, 21-17. The Malaysians are 25 in the world against the third-ranked Japanese.

The Yew Sin-Ee Yi pair next faces Indonesians Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Rian Ardianto who beat South Koreans Kim Wan-ho-Seo Seung-ja 21-18, 21-13.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s run in the men’s singles ended with the defeat to Lee Zii Jia who lost in straight games against Korean veteran Son Wan-ho 11-21, 17-2.

Jonatan Christie joined his compatriot when he came back from a game down to beat Thailand’s Khosit Phetpradap 17-21, 21-18, 221-18 in a marathon 90-minute encounter.

However, in the women’s singles, Indonesia suffered a double blow with the exit of Fitriani Fitriani and world junior champion Gregoria Mariska in the second round -losing to their Indian rivals.
