2010 World Cup winner Fernando Torres and his team Sagan Tosu suffered a frustrating 2-1 defeat as Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo snatched victory with a late penalty in the J League on Saturday.
The Spaniard came close to scoring in the 17th minute, but had little impact after that.
Eight minutes later Consadole Sapporo were awarded a penalty after Sagan’s Joan Oumari pulled Koji Miyoshi’s shirt in the area.
Sagan’s goalkeeper Shuichi Gonda made a brilliant save from Jay Bothroyd however to keep the score goalless at half time.
The home side stepped up a gear in the second half and went ahead thanks to Koji Miyoshi who scored his first goal for the Sapporo in the 58th minute.
With just one minute left, Yuji Ono made it 1-1 with a determined brave and header for Sagan Tosu.
But, more drama followed, in the fourth minute of the stoppage time, Tosu’s Yuji Takahashi gave away a needless penalty with a clumsy tackle on Ken Tokura.
With seconds remaining, Tokura scored his 12th goal of the season to earn Sapporo the 2-1 victory and elevate them to third in the table with 44 points.
Sagan Tosu remain second from bottom of the J League with 30 points. SNTV
