# Ivory Coast striker Kipre Chetche scores for Terengganu in a 2-2 draw at Larkin

Defending champions Johor Darul Takzim are out of the Malaysia Cup final as Terengganu clawed from a 2-0 deficit to snatch a thrilling 2-2 draw in the second-leg semi-final match at the Larkin Stadium in Johor Bahru on Saturday.

The stalemate was good enough for Irfan Bakiti and his team to advance to the Oct 27 Final 3-2 on aggregate. Terengganu had won the first-leg in Kuala Terengganu 1-0 on Oct 6.

They came with confidence and Terengganu added another ingredient to that – never sign die and tremendous fighting spirit – to deny the Southern Tigers who looked to be cruising to the final after grabbing a 2-0 lead by the 62nd minute.

JDT scored from a controversial penalty which was converted by Fernando Marquez on 40 minutes before Gonzalo Cabrera added the second.

Danger lurked at the Larkin Stadium when Ivory Coast hitman Kipre Chetche pulled one back for the Turtles on 69 minutes from an assist by Lee Tuck.

That was all Terengganu needed and the ever-reliable Chetche added another – delivering the killer blow in injury time from an assist from substitute Ashaari Samsuddin in injury time.

For the record, Terengganu last reached the Malaysia Cup final in 2011 but played bridesmaid to Negri Sembilan – losing 2-3.

Perak plays Sabah in the other return-leg semi-final at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu on Sunday. Perak holds a massive 5-1 advantage from the first-leg. RIZAL ABDULLAH
