The Asean Football Federation President, Major General Khiev Sameth, congratulated Persatuan Sepakbola Seluruh Indonesia (PSSI) on winning the bid to host the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2021.
Indonesia secured the host job ahead of South American nations, Brazil and Peru, who were among the main contenders. The decision was reached at the FIFA Council’s meeting in Shanghai.
Major General Sameth today pledged AFF’s support to Indonesia, an AFF Member Association, in their preparations for the prestigious tournament.
“We are thrilled with the news and congratulate Indonesia on their winning bid. There is much to do over the next two years and we at AFF will offer any help and assistance required. Our 12 AFF Member Nations will come together in support of Indonesia.”
Indonesia’s successful hosting of the Under-20 World Cup follows ASEAN’s announcement that it is keen to launch a joint bid for the 2034 FIFA World Cup.
