Perlis has turned to former national shuttler and coach Sairul Amar Ayob to bring their U-12 and U-16 teams to greater heights when the 100PLUS Interstate Championship takes off tomorrow.
Last year in Kota Bharu, Perlis who only participated in three categories (U-12 Boys, U-16 Boys and U-16 Girls) was eliminated in the group stages.
Sairul Amar who was part of the BAM national coaches after retiring from his playing career, signed to be the Head Coach for Perlis BA in October 1, 2019 with a target to lead them into the SUKMA 2020 in Johor.
This 100PLUS National Inter State Team U-12 & U-16 Championships in Penang is the first competitive tournament after his appointment.
Sairul Amar said his target is for his charges to get past the group stage as the competition is very tough from teams like the host state, Penang, Selangor, Sabah, Johor and Kuala Lumpur.
“This will be a good exposure for my players to bring them to the SUKMA Games next year,” said the player who has 7 championships under his belt as a player.
As for Penang Head Coach Razlan Abdullah, it is the best time for his team to prove their mettle after almost making a clean sweep in Kota Bharu, Kelantan last year.
“I’m taking the same players as last year and they will have the best chance to dominate as they will be playing on home turf,” said the confidence 59-year-old coach.
Last year, Penang were champions in the U-12 Girls, U-16 Girls and U-16 Boys categories. They missed out in the U-12 Boys after losing out to Johor in the semifinals and had to settled for third place.
This year teams like Selangor, Johor, Sabah and Kuala Lumpur are expected to also vying for the top spots in all the categories.
