Host state Penang have all their teams qualified for the semifinal of the 100PLUS National Interstate U-12 and U-16 Badminton Championship at the Bukit Dumbar Badminton Hall here today.
Last year in Kota Bharu Kelantan, they swept aside all their challengers in three categories namely U-12 Girls, U-16 Girls and the U-16 Boys.
Its chief coach Razlan Abdullah has said that they are targeting to bring home all the titles this year especially when they are playing in front of home crowd.
“This is the best time for us to do it,” he said when interviewed earlier.
In d quarterfinal, their U-12 Girls defeated 2nd seed Johor 2-1, while the Boys team made to sweat before beating top seed Selangor also by 2-1.
They will meet Selangor Girls and Johor Boys respectively in the semifinal this afternoon.
Their U-16 Girls and Boys have no problems in vanquishing their opponent Sarawak and Johor by same scoreline of 2-0.
They set up a semifinal date with Selangor teams in both categories.
Other teams who are qualified for the semifinals are Pahang and Kuala Lumpur in the U-12 Girls, Kuala Lumpur and Kedah also made it in the U-12 Boys.
For the U-16 Girls, Johor and Kedah also goes through, while in the U-16 Boys, favourite team Kuala Lumpur set a showdown against Perak.
It is going to be thrilling semifinals in the afternoon which will start at 5pm for the U-12 and 6.30pm for the U-16 teams.
