Karate exponent S. Prem Kumar was one proud man at the World Trade Center in Manila on Saturday after accomplishing his mission when he won the men’s below 55kg kumite with a crushing 6-1 win over local favorite Norman Marz Montalvo.
Brimming with pride the smiling Prem was quick to out that it was a “mission accomplished” after a heartbreaking defeat to his Filipino rival at the last Sea Games in Kuala Lumpur in 2017. He was determined to make good in Manila.
“If a Filipino could beat me in my own den there was no reason why I could not do the same in Manila. I came well prepared…physically and mentally. Here I am today with the gold medal,” said Prem on his win.
“I have achieved what I had set out to do two years ago. I am proud and happy to win the first gold for karate. More importantly, I managed to do it in Manila. The home crowd did not bother me. Instead, I felt motivated to win the gold.” – BY RIZAL ABDULLAH
