Team Honda Asia Dream Racing with SHOWA is in the hunt for a top-10 finish at the inaugural Sepang 8 Hours this weekend.

In pursuit of this objective, the team has put together three strong contenders for this weekend’s line-up – Malaysian Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi, Indonesian Andi Farid Izdihar, and Somkiat Chantra.

Of the three, Zaqhwan has the most experience astride the Honda CBR1000 RR, having recently ended the 2019 FIM Asia Road Racing Championship as a second runner-up. The Malaysian rider have also participated in the Superbike class of the All Japan Road Race this year.

Andi Farid Izdihar was Zaqhwan’s team mate during their Suzuka 8 Hour stint back in July. The Indonesian rider is slated for a Moto2 ride in 2020. Meanwhile, Thai rider Somkiat Chantra finished 21st overall in his Moto2 debut season this year.

The combined strength of their individual skills makes a top-10 finish entirely plausible despite the high level of competition expected over the weekend.

“The team’s confidence stems not just from the riders, but also from the entire team line-up. Our mechanics are well versed with the requirements of endurance racing and they know exactly what to do to prepare the best machine for the team. If all goes well, even a top-five position may be within reach,” said Zulhelmi Ahmad, team manager of the Honda Asia Dream Racing with SHOWA team.

The team will be competing with the tested and proven Honda CBR1000 RR this weekend.

“The Honda CBR1000 RR has never disappointed us so far. It is fast, easy to handle, and at the same time, stable and reliable,” Zulhelmi concluded.
