Hoo Pang Ron said ‘winning is always a great feeling’ after alongside partner Cheng Su Yin won the Mixed Doubles crown of the PETRONAS Malaysia International Challenge earlier this afternoon at the Arena Badminton Perak in Ipoh.

The newly-paired duo were in mercurial form as they set aside the challenge of Lin Yu Chieh-Hsu Yin-Hui from Chinese Taipei 21-17, 21-19 for the crown.

“To win the title is always a great feeling. But it is also important that we play our game – good gameplay will make our progress smoother,” said Pang Ron after the 36 minute duel.

“We are not thinking too much about the rankings at the moment as we have only played two tournaments together. Our concentration is now on the last two tournaments for this year – the Syed Modi 300 and the India Super 100.”

In the meantime, Malaysia’s hope fell a little short in the three other finals when fourth-seeded Wong Ling Ching fell to Miho Kayama of Japan in the Women’s Singles final.

Ling Ching threw everything she had in the tie that lasted a good 47 minutes before conceding 21-23, 16-21.

In the final of the Women’s Doubles, Ng Qi Xuan-Yap Yee were unable to control their nerves as Lin Chih-Chun-Sung Yu-Hsuan from Chinese Taipei got the better of them to win 21-11, 21-18.

For Muhd Fazriq Mohamad Rafiz-Wong Vin Sean, they battled for more than an hour in the final of the Men’s Doubles before succumbing to a 16-21, 21-18, 15-21 loss to Japan’s Takuto Inoue-Masayuki Onodera.
