Akane Yamaguchi landed her second BWF World Tour title this year in style when she won the Women’s Singles crown of the Yamamoto Japan Masters 2024 at the Yamamoto Prefectural Gymnasium in Japan.
The 27-year-old Katsuyama native took just 34 minutes to wrap up the Super500 title when she beat Gregoria Mariska Tunjung from Indonesia 21-12, 21-12.
Akane had earlier won the Japan Open 2024 in August.
However, the loss for Jorji – as Gregoria Mariska is more fondly known as – was made up in the Men’s Doubles through the pair of Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Rian Ardianto.
The All England champions were made to work hard for their victory over Japanese duo Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi in the final.
Fajar-Muhammad Rian took the first set 21-15 before Takuro-Yugo claimed the second set 21-17.
However Fajar-Muhammad Rian, who had beaten Takuro-Yugo in the final of the Malaysia Open two years ago, made sure of the title with a 21-17 victory in the third set.
In the meantime, China took two titles at the Yamamoto Japan Masters 2024 after taking the Men’s Singles crown and also the Women’s Doubles title.
Li Shi Feng beat Leong Jun Hao from Malaysia in straight games, 21-10, 21-13 while in the final of the Women’s Doubles, Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning overcame Yuki Fukushima-Mayu Matsumoto 21-15, 21-5.
On the other hand, Thailand emerged victorious in the Mixed Doubles with newly-formed pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Supissara Paewsampran getting the better of Thom Gicquel-Delphine Delrue from France, 16-21, 21-10, 17-21.
