K. Joshua stayed focus towards winning the double in the Grand Finals of the Allianz Junior Badminton Championship 2024 here in Bukit Kiara.
At the end of the second day of some fierce competition, the Form Three student of Kolej Sultan Abdul Hamid in Alor Star has won all his matches in both the Singles and Doubles event.
In Group A of the Boys’ Under-15 Singles, the 15-year-old Joshua opened with an energy-sapping 25-23, 22-20 win over over Jack Yak Ka Hei (SM Yu Yuan, Sabah) before gaining a walkover from Ng Hao Tong (SMK Damansara Jaya, Selangor).
In his third match of Group A today, K. Joshua then overcame Muhammad Shakif Farhan Zairi (SMK Syed Hassan, Perlis) 21-12, 21-9 for his place in the quarterfinals tomorrow.
In Group C of the Boys’ U15 Doubles, Joshua alongside partner Chong Lee Qian (SMJK Sin Min, Kedah) were stretched into three sets by Royce Yap Hong Xun (Paragon Private School, Johor)-Yew Jun Cheng (SMK Dato Usman Awang, Johor) before winning 21-16, 17-21, 21-18.
Lee Qian-Joshua had an easier second game in Group C when they took out Ng Li Yang (SMK Seafield, Selangor)-Teh Zi Yi (SMK Seafield, Selangor) 21-10, 21-7.
In their third game, Lee Qian-Joshua then made short work of Athan Yang Zhi Yung (Chung Hua Middle School No.4, Sarawak)-Bosco Ng Zong Ze (Chung Hua Middle School No.4, Sarawak) 21-19, 21-15.
