It would seem a little improbable but Siti Nur Aminah Abdullah defied the odds to win the double as she etched her name as a standout in this year’s Allianz Junior Badminton Championship 2024 Grand Finals here at Stadium Juara.

The 13-year-old from SMK Bukit Sentosa 2 in Rawang, Selangor took both the Girls’ Under-13 Singles and Doubles crown (with partner Adiq Puteri Waheeda Hermazan (SK Sungai Choh, Rawang, Selangor).

“It was the final day and I really wanted to win both titles. The plan was always to make sure that I go for the early kill to win the point. That was important as I was playing in two finals,” said Siti Nur Aminah.

“Of course I’m happy that I won. Last year I could not play in this event so I was really aiming to do well. And it is great that I managed to win both titles in the Grand Finals of the AJBC2024.”

Added Adiq Putri: “I did not expect to win. I just tried very hard and went all out in the final. We supported each other well and the plan was to move the shuttlecock around to make it hard for the opponent.

“I hope that we can defend the title next year.”

Siti Nur Aminah had a relatively easier final in the Girls’ U13 Singles when she faced Chong Wan Xin (from SMK Air Putih, Kuantan, Pahang).

It took her just 30 minutes to wrap the title with a straight set 21-16, 21-17 win.

However in the final of the Girls’ U13 Doubles, Siti Nur Aminah and Adiq Putri were fully stretched by Perak duo Tan Zhi Ying (from SMJK San Min, Teluk Intan)-Yong Hui Teng (SMJK Ayer Tawar).

Siti Nur Aminah-Adiq Puteri took the first set 21-10 before Zhi Ying-Hui Teng fought back for the second set 21-15.

But Siti Nur Aminah-Adiq Puteri were not about to be denied as they romped to a 21-17 win in the third set for the title.
