If Beijing wins the bid to host the 2022 Winter Olympics there will be a touch of Malaysia because the Genting Resort Secret Garden built – one of the five venues is the brainchild of Malaysian visionary entrepreneur Datuk Lim Chee Wah.
Built at a cost of RM12 billion by Malaysia’s Genting Group which is today is the leader in the global travel and leisure industry with operations in seven countries – having expanded and diversified from its initial hotel and resort activities to plantation, power generation and oil and gas exploration and product. The Genting group continues to reinvent by adding new businesses and attractions.
Leveraging from past experinces, the Lim’s family decided to capture this window of opportunities by giving the birth to new Integrated Resorts such as the Sentosa Island in Singapore and the Genting Resort Secret Garden in Chongli, which is the latest attraction.
The Genting Resort Secret Garden is home to the Genting Snow Park in Beijing, host to a variety of top tier snow sports events, notably as part of the Far East Cup circuit, an Alpine ski racing circuit that also visits Japan and South Korea, drawing skiers from across Asia.
The Resort is China’s largest ski resort with 70km of ski trails over 87 routes and a total ski are of 262 hectares at the Genting Snow Park, capable of supporting 19,600 tourists at any one time. Located only three hours drive northwest of Bejing, it is the brainchild of visionary entrepreneur Datuk Lim Chee Wah who saw the potential of Asia’s ski market at a time when it was still in its infancy state.
This makes it a world-class year round playground in Beijing’s backyard with fresh mountain air. Visitors can choose to stay at a 5 star hotel or in private apartments and residences.
The recently completed Secret Garden Genting Grand Hotel, a five-star hotel offers visitors world-class resort experience with 265 guest rooms and suites, capable of accommodating over 900 tourists at the same time.
The aim is to create an environmentally sensitive year round recreational destination which provides a diversity of activities. Once completed the whole project site includes a ski village, a 18-hole golf course course, tennis centre, traditional Chinese market, family entertainment zone, spa and wellness facilities and multiple 2-, 3-, 4- and 5-star hotels and branded condominiums, totalling 5-million square feet.
The resort features integrated pathways, plazas and landscaped spaces encouraging a connection with outdoors. The resort will become a snow vacation, summer holidays, leisure and health, eco-tourism in one, featuring a five-star eco-tourism resort area, capable of receiving more than 1.8 million visitors annually.
By launching the new Genting Resort Secret Garden, the Lim family once again proved that they known how to transform places and bring the alive – same as the late Tan Sri Lim Goh Tong who passed away peacefully on 23rd October 2007 and left behind a family that took up his legacy.
Since then the Genting Group continues to grow from strength to strength with commitment to excellence, innovation and growth which has resulted in the birth of numerous premier global brand names.
On Wednesday, Ski Malaysia and Genting Resort Secret Garden signed a partnership which will see Malaysia embark on a journey to produce skiers who will be able to compete in Winter Olympics and World Cup with the resort as “home” to Malaysian skiers who will train there.
Beijing is competing with Almaty (Kazakhstan) to host the 2022 Winter Olympics.
