Shortly after landing the 12th AFF Futsal crown for Thailand last week, head coach Miguel Rodrigo is training his aim towards the AFC Futsal Under-20 Championship which it will play hosts to later this year.
The inaugural AFC Futsal U20 Championship – which is being used as the qualifying venue for the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Argentina – will be held in Bangkok on 9-21 May 2017.
“Of course, as hosts we have to look at winning this (AFC Futsal U20) tournament,” said Rodrigo.
“We have tried out several young players at the AFF Futsal Championship and they have shown their quality. I believe that at least two 18-year-olds players have demonstrated that they can play at a high level.
“Now it is a question of just looking for around five or six quality players to back the team up.”
The two players that Rodrigo was referring two were Panut Kittipanuwong and also Muhammad Osmanmusa, who incidentally emerged as the joint top scorer of the AFF tournament.
The AFC Futsal U20 Championship will have 22 teams taking part.
