Vietnam and Myanmar maintained their positions at the top of Group B this evening following wins over Singapore and hosts Indonesia respectively at the Jaka Baring Stadium.
Vietnam pummelled Singapore 10-0 while Myanmar edged Indonesia 4-1.
Following from their big win over hosts Indonesia two days ago, the Vietnam girls were all eager to pick up their second full points of the competition.
And against Singapore, they did not have to take too long to carve out the lead where just twelve minutes in, Nguyen Thi Thuy Hang’s shot came off Singapore keeper Noor Kusumawati Muhammad Rosman for the lead.
Hoang Thi Loan doubled Vietnam’s advantage in the 27th minute from close range as Singapore then seem resigned to their inability to push forward in any commanding fashion.
Singapore then conceded a penalty in the 31st minute after Nguyet Thi Thuy Hang was brought down inside the box for which Nguyen Thi Tuyet Dung made no mistake from the spot.
Two minutes later, Tuyet Dung then headed in the fourth goal as Thuy Hang then made sure that Vietnam were comfortable at 5-0 at the half with a 40th minute effort.
“The target was just for the three points, not the score line,” said Vietnam head coach Mai Duc Chung afterwards.
“We put in some younger players in the match today and I thought that they played well.”
Nguyen Thi Van nailed a hat trick (54th, 65th and 77th minute) after the break as Thuy Hang then completed her own hat trick in the 69th minute.
Pham Hoang Quynh’s goal in the 62nd minute completed the rout as Vietnam remained perched at the top of the standings.
Vietnam will take on the Philippines next in two days as Myanmar will entertain Singapore.
In the meantime, Myanmar seem to still struggle with the early onset of nerves despite scoring the early goal through Win Theingi Tun in the fourth minute for a 6-1 victory over Indonesia.
“There’s still this issue with nerves early in the game,” said Myanmar head coach Win Thu Moe.
“Yes we improved slowly in the game but we need to be better the next time round.”
Theingi Tun added the second goal on 12 minute before Thandar Moe (24th minute) made sure of the 3-0 scoreline at the half.
Theingi Tun completed her hat trick in the 56th and 65th minute to be followed by July Kyaw seven minutes to the end.
Indonesia gave the fans at the stand something to cheer with their only goal of the game in the Yudith Herlina Sada in the 66th minute.
