# Terengganu FA “rest” their head coach
# Assistant coach Mike Mulvey takes over Ahmad’s place
# Team manager Marzuki Sulong quits due to health reasons
Just 10 days into the 2016 M-League season Terengganu head coach Ahmad Yusof is the first victim of “take a rest” when teams don’t achieve what is expected of them.
Ahmad, a former international, is paying a heavy price for Terengganu’s premature exit in the FA Cup – losing 3-1 to Premier League club side PKNS FC in a second round match.
Terengganu also won one and lost one in the two Super League matches played so far. The Turtles beat Penang 1-0 at home but lost by a similar margin to Kedah away.
Terengganu FA president Datuk Wan Nizam Wan Abdul Hamid said assistant coach Mike Mulvey has been appointed the caretaker coach for the next three or four matches.
The Australian, however, has a mammoth task on his hands because Terengganu’s next match is against defending Super League champions Johor Darul Takzim at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium in Kuala Terengganu this Saturday (Feb 27).
Wan Nizam also announced on Monday that he will take over as the team manager with immediate effect to replace Marzuki Sulong who has quit the team for health reasons.
Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman called for immediate action to be taken after Terengganu’s second team in the M-League – T-Team (Terengganu FC II) was also knocked out in the FA Cup in the second round.
T-Team fell to Pahang 2-1 after extra time – handing Terengganu a double blow in the FA Cup.
