The tenth edition of the 100PLUS Malaysian Junior Open starts tomorrow at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Golf & Country Club with 2013 champion Amir Nazrin Jailani leading the national charge. Amir, 17, is aiming to be the first player to win the title twice.
“I was hoping for a good run last year but did not make the cut. This year, I would like to try and get it back,” said Amir, who just last week finished third in the KL Amateur Open. “I did not play during Ramadhan and the KL Amateur was my first tournament after a month’s break.”
Amir will have to battle not just his teammates like Daeng Abdul Rahman Abd Aziz and Ervin Chang but also players from India, Korea, Thailand, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia and Taiwan. A total of 112 golfers from the region will be participating in this tenth edition of the 100PLUS Malaysian Junior Open.
Organised by the Malaysian Golf Association (MGA), hosted by SAASGCC and sponsored by 100PLUS, Malaysia’s No.1 isotonic beverage, the 100PLUS Malaysian Junior Open is among the most awaited junior meets in this region. Each year, the region’s aspiring stars converge in Malaysia to compete for honours.
All the players, especially the foreign golfers, had a chance to test the course today during the official practice round. Later in the evening, the MGA held a simple opening ceremony which was attended by MGA President Y.B Senator Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohd Anwar Mohd Nor.
